The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued the instructions regarding the Import of Split Cassia label as Cinnamon.
The CBIC has requested that necessary action may be taken to sensitize officers under your jurisdiction handling facilitated consignments or those officers posted at non FSSAI ports, to ensure that Cassia or Split Cassia is not imported with the label of Cinnamon or Split Cassia (Cinnamon).
The Board has invited the reference to F.No. 1-1993/FSSAI/Imports/2019 dated 20th July 2021 issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, New Delhi wherein it was informed that there have been cases of import of Split Cassia from Vietnam, entering through different ports (Chennai, Mundra, etc) which are labeled as Cinnamon or Split Cassia (Cinnamon). Both the products are different in terms of their quality and physical parameters.
“FSSAI has been taking appropriate action for those consignments which are referred for examination but there is a need to sensitize the field formations of Customs handling facilitated consignments OP those officers posted at non FSSAIports, to ensure that Cassia or Split Cassia is not imported with the label of Cinnamon or Split Cassia (Cinnamon),” the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in the notification said.
