The newly qualified Chartered Accountant from Kerala who is an inspiration to many with her extraordinary story of sheer willpower and hard work is all set to battle against Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
Here is the story of CA Preethu Jayaprakash conquering her dream and setting a new example for the saying “Nothing is Impossible”.
CA Preethu was born and grew up in a small village in Kerala where the transportation facility was very poor.
“This child cannot walk. With time she will not be able to move. Her bones are getting brittle. As the child grows, the complexities of her illness will also increase,” the Child specialist at Thiruvananthapuram Sree Chithra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology informed Jayaprakash and Radhamani. Each word was a shattering blow to the young couple. They looked helplessly as their one-year-old baby cries incessantly. Jayaprakash held the baby in his arms and cried, even as Radhamani was gently caressing the baby’s hands. The doctor was not exaggerating. She never walked again.
Due to the condition, it was difficult for her to go to school. So, she did all her schooling and college studies including the CA course from home itself. She took home tuition from College-going students near her home. At this time she lost her brother, her only friend, which made her all alone.
But, all these didn’t stop her. Rather, she was determined to fight her limitations and achieve her dream. She thought of becoming a CA. She started strategizing her studies and worked hard to achieve her dream. She excelled in 10th, 12th, and B Com. After B Com she cleared CPT in her first attempt without any coaching. When she decided to become a Chartered Accountant, everyone said ‘CA course is one of the toughest courses and you better go for M Com or MBA’. And, even if you qualify this, no one is going to hire a wheelchair-bound girl”.
But, they were wrong about her. In fact, the whole plan of nature was wrong about her. She had a dream and she decided her limitations. She was not ready to succumb to her weakness and always looked for alternative ways to overcome it.
Finally, she qualified for CA in February 2021. She became a sensation overnight and she was overwhelmed with appreciation calls and messages. After all the struggles she has reached the top of the world. But reality struck her again in the form of rejections from a few CA firms in Kerala. That doesn’t stop her, in fact, that made her much more furious to achieve. She got selected in Deloitte and now working at Deloitte USI, Hyderabad office.
Her parents carried her dreams forward-literally and figuratively. They taught her to dream big and today she is a Chartered Accountant, a journey which would have been impossible if not for her parents who stood by her like the rock of Gibraltar.
