A 29-Year-old businessman, Sirajuddin Kamaluddin Chaudhary was arrested in Uttar Pradesh against the fake Input Tax Claim ( ITC ). He was wanted by the Maharashtra state’s Goods and Services Tax ( GST ) department for claiming input tax credits ( ITC ) of Rs 12.59 crore against false bills of goods procurement worth Rs 70.22 crore.
According to the sources, the businessman was apprehended as a result of an interstate operation that involved agents from the UP police and the Pune investigation section of the state GST department. Also, he is the 68th Tax Evader arrested by the Maharashtra Government.
On Sunday, he appeared before a magistrate’s court after being taken to Pune on a transit remand. According to a press release from the Joint Commissioner of State Tax Pune at GST Bhavan here, the magistrate ordered the remand in judicial custody for two weeks.
The press release stated that four large suppliers were discovered to be nonexistent or fake during the examination because their GST registrations were obtained fraudulently using false documents.
Further, Investigations into these suppliers’ cases were carried out in several locations, and it was discovered that the arrested businessman had obtained bogus ITCs for Rs 12.59 billion for the company using fake bills costing Rs. 70.22 crores.
On March 10, the team located and apprehended the suspect with the assistance of the UP police. He was then transported to Pune under the terms of the transit remand mandated by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The offender was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Pune, according to the press statement.
