The 28th meeting of the Goods and Service Tax Council has decided to reduce the rate of tax from 18 per cent to 5 per cent on supply of E-Books for which print version exist.
The move aims at encouraging digitisation in the education sector.
“As a green initiative, GST on supply of e-books has been reduced from 18 to 5%,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
However, there are some who believe that it is a good decision but when it comes to technology there still are some challenges in the education system as the benefit of the reduction would not be reached to the students from the rural areas.
