In a significant move, the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT), the apex body for direct taxes in India, may soon frame policies for the Income Tax Department is evaluating a report that might reward the honest taxpayers.
The report currently being examined proposes to facilitate honest and consistent taxpayers by giving them a priority in availing public services such as airports and tax-related works on priority, a tax official told the news agency PTI.
CBDT even formed a committee to look into the matter. It suggested giving precedence to honest taxpayers in availing public services at airports, railway stations and at highway toll plazas.
“A proposal is under consideration as to how we can benefit our honest taxpayers. It has been communicated by the finance minister in his budget speech that honest taxpayers will definitely be getting advantages from the I-T Department. A committee had been set up and it has given a report. “We are examining it,” CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra was quoted by PTI as saying.
Earlier there were reports that the department is mulling to empower the honest tax-payers may get “priority service” while using public services at airports, railway stations and at highway toll plazas.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a conference with senior tax officers last year, had urged the department to enhance the taxpayer services and ensure that the honest taxpayers were given due importance.
