Ex-Customs Officer Convicted with 4-Year Imprisonment by CBI Court in Decade-Old Bribery Case

The recent verdict by the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) court in Ghaziabad has led to the sentencing of four individuals, including the former Deputy Commissioner of Customs to four years in prison. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8 lakh on each of the convicted individuals, totaling Rs 28 lakh for all four.

The other three accused include Former Customs Officer’s wife, the Chief Promoter of M/s.Aban Exim Pvt. Ltd, and a middleman.

The case originated from a CBI investigation initiated on November 29, 2013. According to the CBI, the middlemen approached the ex- customs officer to facilitate the clearance of a seized consignment for M/s. Aban Exim Pvt. Ltd. In response, the ex-customs officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from the Chief Promoter of Aban Exim Pvt. Ltd, through the middleman.

The CBI conducted a well-coordinated trap operation, apprehending  Chief Promoter while he was in the process of paying the Rs. 5 lakh bribe on November 29, 2013. The bribe was handed over to the wife of the ex-customs officer at her residence in NOIDA on behalf of her husband. Subsequently, searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of all accused parties.

All three were arrested on November 30, 2013, and were later granted bail. The investigation collected substantial evidence against the accused individuals, leading to the filing of a chargesheet in January 2014. The verdict underscores the commitment to combating corruption and upholding justice in cases involving public officials.
