The 36th Meeting of the GST Council scheduled to be held today through Video Conference. The Council, in the meeting, may finalize the issues on electronic vehicles and lotteries. It may also consider the proposal to ease tax issues for the solar sector.

The previous Council meeting held on June 21, had deferred these two issues to the next meeting. In the budget also, the Government proposed various tax benefits to the electronic vehicles and assured that the GST Council may further reduce the tax rates.

The last meeting also extended the GST annual return due date for the financial year (FY) 2017-18 till 31 August 2019.

The meeting, which will take place over video conference, is unlikely to take up any other issue since the members prefer to discuss them in person, officials in the Council said.

In order to ease the process of GST registration and reduce the paperwork involved, GST Council had also given a go-ahead to a new system for verification of taxpayers by introducing an Aadhaar-enabled GST registration.

Extending the tenure of National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) by two years, GST Council had also approved a levy of 10 % penalty for delay in depositing the profiteered amount by more than 30 days.

Further, the Lottery owners have requested the Council to merge the two rates, and also consider bringing that rate down to 12%.
