To ensure the smooth completion of pending departmental work and for administrative convenience, all Income Tax Offices across India are mandated by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to remain operational on 29th, 30th, and 31st March, 2024. This directive is aimed at facilitating the necessary tasks and processes during the year-end closure.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has issued an order under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, through an announcement dated 18th March, 2024. The order, bearing reference number F. No. 225/53/2024-ITA-II, pertains to the closure of the Financial Year 2023-24 on 31st March, 2024, which falls on a Sunday. Additionally, 30th March, 2024 is a Saturday, and 29th March, 2024 is marked as a closed holiday.
This step by the CBDT reaffirms its commitment to effective tax administration and ensuring the timely completion of essential tasks within the Income Tax department.
