The Special Judge for Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) Cases in Bangalore has sentenced the former Superintendent of Central Excise and Central Tax ( GST ) to a three-year imprisonment term along with a fine of Rs. 5.0 lakh in connection with a bribery case.
The case dates back to March 26, 2021, when the CBI initiated proceedings against Jitendra K Dagur, who was serving as the Superintendent of Central Excise and Central Tax ( GST ) at the Honnavar Range in Uttara Kannada, Karwar.
The allegation against the accused centred on the purported demand and acceptance of Rs. 25,000 from a complainant in exchange for the waiver of tax and penalty liabilities for the financial year 2015-2016.

Subsequently, the CBI meticulously orchestrated a sting operation, setting a trap that led to the apprehension of the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe sum of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant.
Following a thorough investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet against the accused on August 27, 2021. After a judicial process, during which evidence was presented and arguments were heard, the court rendered its verdict, finding the accused guilty as charged and imposing a sentence commensurate with the gravity of the offence.
