A Chartered Account has syphoned off Rs. 96.88 lakhs from the Santacruz ( West ) housing society’s bank account to her account citing the payment of salary to the staff members. A complaint was registered against the CA on wednesday before the Santacruz police.
According to the complaint filed by Purushottam Rohera, the society’s 80-year-old former chairman, CA Munnaza Parande allegedly deceived the society’s committee members into signing cheques by claiming the funds were needed to pay staff salaries. Instead, she used these cheques to break the society’s fixed deposits and transferred the money into her personal account.
Parande’s husband and two accomplices have also been implicated in the fraud, which was exposed following the complaint lodged on Wednesday. The police have booked all involved parties as the investigation continues.
The late father of the CA, managed the Shamrock Cooperative Housing Society Ltd. in Santacruz (West). Following his death during the first wave of Covid-19 in 2020, Munazza was appointed as the society’s accountant.
The society receives substantial rent from cellular network towers on its buildings and holds significant funds in Fixed Deposits (FDs) at Shamrao Vithal Co-operative Bank. She exploited the elderly committee members and falsified account reports with the help of CA Santosh Mane, who also forged audit reports.
The CA, her husband, and two others have been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
