The Securities and Exchange Board of India ( SEBI ) has released Frequently asked questions ( FAQs ) with answers for the SEBI Investor Certification Exam.
The following were released for better understanding of the examination pattern, fees, syllabus etc. by the SEBI in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Markets ( NISM ).
What is the SEBI Investor Certification Examination ( SICE )?
The SEBI Investor Certification Examination, launched by SEBI and NISM, aims to improve financial literacy and investor awareness. It equips individuals with basic knowledge of saving, investing, and navigating the financial markets effectively.
Who can take the SICE exam?
Anyone interested in learning about the Indian financial markets can take the exam. There are no age or educational qualification requirements.
How to register and enrol for the SICE exam?
1. Register online at the NISM Online Certification System: NiSM Certifications.
2. After registration approval, enrol for the exam on the NISM system. Choose “Online” as your city and select your preferred date and time.
3. Upon enrollment, you’ll receive an admit card with exam details. You have 6 months to take the exam from the scheduled date.
What’s the exam format and duration?
The SICE exam is a 60-minute online test with 50 multiple-choice questions.
Is there a fee for the SICE exam?
No, the SICE exam is completely free.
How can I prepare for the SICE exam?

How will I receive exam credentials?
You’ll receive login credentials one day before your exam date.

There’s no rescheduling needed. You have 6 months to take the exam from the enrolled date.
When and how can I take the SICE exam?
The SICE exam offers flexibility. You can take it from anywhere ( using a desktop, laptop, or Android mobile device ) within 6 months of your exam date.
What’s the validity period of the certificate?
The SICE certificate is valid for 2 years.
What’s the passing score for the SICE exam?
You need to score at least 50% (25 marks out of 50) to pass the exam.
How will I receive my certificate after passing?
You’ll receive a digital copy of your certificate via email within 2-3 business days.
Can I retake the exam if I fail?
Yes, you can retake the exam after six months. Use the provided study materials to prepare and re-enroll after the waiting period.
Is there negative marking in the SICE exam?
No, there’s no negative marking in the exam.
How do I renew the certificate after it expires?
Retake and pass the exam again before the certificate validity period ends.
What happens if I open the exam link but don’t appear?
If you open the exam link and view at least one question before closing it, the system might record it as an “appearance.” However, you can still reschedule by contacting the exam provider.
