The question on my title is very important in this political scenario happening in the capital city. Apart from the political views, I am juxtaposing the legacies of Smt. Indira Gandhi and our current Financial Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as a representative of women in Indian society.
Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman had the opportunity to walk behind the path of Mrs. Gandhi. At first instance, she was appointed as a Defence Minister of India in 2017 and also a second woman to have that post in the Cabinet. But who was the First? Here comes the answer to that question Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
With regards to the Finance Minister of India and the first woman to present the budget, it was Mrs. Indira Gandhi, when then FM Moraji desai was resigned. Thereafter no one was appointed to the position and finally in 2019, the NDA Government appointed Nirmala Sitharaman as the Finance Minister and Corporate Affairs.
And by appointing for the second time, she will make the history of FM to present the Union Budget in the 7th consecutive row surpassing the record of Moraji Desai and may be the highest number of budgets if she surpasses the record created by the same ex-finance minister. Hence, Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman Has the best opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
Despite differing political ideologies and affiliations, they share a common thread—they are women who have carved their own paths in history. Holding positions in the cabinet or as Members of Parliament, where they face scrutiny and challenges, especially as women, is no easy feat. Yet, both have overcome these obstacles to leave their mark on history. Who could be the Next. It could be YOU!
