Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming series “Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper,” directed by the creator of “Mirzapur.” Set to release on July 18, 2024, the trailer has already stirred controversy among Chartered Accountants.
The gist or summary provided on the series by the Netflix says that “A banking Crisis forces CA topper Tribhuvan Mishra to take up sex work. With this dual existence alleviate his troubles – or create entirely new ones?”.
Chartered Accountants ( CAs ) strongly recommend that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) take immediate action against the series. They believe it degrades a noble profession that requires immense hard work and dedication to succeed. The series has raised many questions and concerns among the CA fraternity.
Dr. Mrunal Patel, a renowned competitive exam instructor, particularly known for UPSC coaching, has expressed his disagreement with the series through his X account. He posted“Freedom of speech ke naam pe web-series makers are crossing the limits of dignity and sensibilities. This new Netflix webseries is about a CA-topper who has become a male-prostitute, as per the trailer. I wonder what they will do with IIT/NEET Toppers, UPSC Toppers, & other competitive exam toppers in the next seasons, if it goes unabated. As a teacher for competitive exams, I feel pained & irritated by this vulgar & obscene portrayal of toppers.”
One comment of a concerned person in the ‘X’ says that “Sir I am least concerned about what this series Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper is but using word CA topper in title where series is about something which will be defaming whole CA community and affecting all CA Aspirants.”
The X platform is buzzing with heated debates over the series. The opposing CAs have created the hashtag #Boycott_CA_Topper, expressing their desire to halt the series’ release. Conversely, another group of people is defending the series, arguing that it is purely fictional.
These days, creators are incorporating realistic elements into their stories, whether fiction or non-fiction, to spark discussions and capture audience attention. Audience tastes and preferences have also shifted towards more realistic content. For instance, “The Kerala Story” garnered nationwide attention, eliciting both negative and positive responses.
As for “CA Topper,” let’s wait and see how it unfolds.
