Sasthamangalam Ajith Kumar, a prominent criminal and cyber lawyer, has fallen victim to an online fraud network, losing Rs 93 lakh. The scam was executed by making him believe he would reap huge profits through stock market trading.

Ajith Kumar, who regularly represents clients in cybercrime cases, was skillfully deceived between June 21 and 27 this year. The cyber police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Kumar, a senior advocate for central agencies including Customs and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), received a call on June 27 from a foreign number on his WhatsApp. The scam began when he was convinced of potential high returns from stock trading. He was subsequently added to a WhatsApp group named Club 88 and instructed to install a mobile app called Block Tigers. He was informed that further contact would be made by another person.

Following the initial contact, Kumar was persuaded to deposit Rs 5 lakh in two installments. He was deceived into believing he was making profits from stock trading, leading him to transfer a total of Rs 93 lakh from various bank accounts by June 27. The perpetrators then became unreachable.

The scammers presented fabricated proof of profits, which ultimately led Kumar to realize he had been tricked. He has since filed a complaint with the cyber police. The investigation is ongoing.
