The Kerala Government has exempted three months Road Tax for private buses from July 1..
The Kerala transport minister A K Saseendran informed that the state cabinet has decided to give road tax exemption to private buses for three more months from July 1. School buses and tourist buses will also benefit from this exemption.
In July, the government granted permission to increase the fare for stage carriages. Since examining that fare hike alone will not solve the problems of the bus owners amid the COVID crisis, state decided to grant the tax exemption for 3 more months. With the tax exemption, the government will incur a loss of Rs 94 cr.
The government had already granted tax exemption to buses for 3 months from April 1.
It is also decided that private buses will be considered long distance trips connecting more than two districts like KSRTC when the services resume. The minister had also informed that action including cancelation of the permit will be taken against the buses, if they violate the promise. The minister also informed that the accident rate in Kerala has fallen by 17 percent due to this COVID-19 crisis.
