The Gujarat State Assembly passed State GST bill 2017 in a special session convened today.
Gujarat became the 10th State to pass the SGST Bill 2017.
The Goa State Assembly also passed SGST Bill today.
Earlier the Legislative Assembly of Telangana State passed the State GST Bill on 9th April, 2017, Bihar passed it on 24th April, Rajasthan Assembly on 26th April, Jharkhand on 27th April, 2017, Chhattisgarh Assembly on 28th April, 2017, Uttarakhand on 2nd May, Madhya Pradesh Assembly on 3rd May, 2017 and Haryana passed the State GST Bill on 4th May, 2017.
The Bill was passed almost unanimously with opposition Congress leaders Shankersinh Vaghela and Shaktisinh Gohil seeking certain changes to be presented before the GST Council.
While addressing the House, the Finance Minister Nitin Patel said, “GST will abolish all the taxation related disputes between the states and this will make Indian economy more strong. After implementation of GST, the state will lose some tax income but the central government is agreed to provide 14 per cent compensation for five years.”
