Following the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet ( ACC ), Ashu Mathur, an officer of the Indian Cost Accounts Service ( ICoAS ), officially took charge as Chief Adviser ( Cost ) at the Department of Expenditure within the Ministry of Finance. This significant appointment places him at Level-17, an apex level position, marking the commencement of his duties on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Before assuming his current role, Mathur, a seasoned 1991-batch ICoAS officer, held the position of Additional Chief Adviser ( Cost ). His transition to Chief Adviser ( Cost ) signifies a key elevation in his distinguished career.
Mathur brings a wealth of expertise to his new role, being a qualified Cost Accountant and Chartered Accountant. Additionally, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy & Management from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and Syracuse University, USA.
His diverse professional journey includes serving in various capacities across different Ministries, Departments, autonomous bodies, and regulatory bodies. Notable among these are his roles at the Department of Defence Production, ‘Finance Commission Division’ of the Department of Expenditure, AIIMS Jodhpur, Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission, Tariff Commission, and GST, among others.
In his capacity as Chief Adviser ( Cost ), Shri Mathur not only assumes a pivotal role within the Department of Expenditure but also serves as the head of the Indian Cost Accounts Service, further contributing to his extensive and varied professional portfolio.
