The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) warned the defaulters against the dues from property tax and related cesses till May 18 at Rs 711.71 crore.
The BBMP West zone, where Mantri Mall was shut down for the third time in six months, had 35,084 properties that owed Rs 103.26 crore. Rs 41 crore is the dues from the mall since 2019 and the mall was closed on May 10 for non-payment.
A week after it was closed, the Karnataka High Court issued an interim order directing the BBMP to open the mall, and the mall developer to deposit Rs 20 crore with the BBMP before July 31, of which Rs 3.5 crore is to be deposited before June 1. The BBMP is likely to challenge the order as it sought full payment by July 31.
The dues in the South zone are Rs 108.28 crore from 35,742 properties, Rs 95.03 crore in Bommanahalli from 57,043 properties, Rs 24.20 crore in Dasarahalli from 17,223 properties, Rs 98.04 crore in the East zone from 49,385 properties, Rs 54.03 crore in Rajarajeshwari Nagar from 55,073 properties and Rs 53.71 crore in Yelahanka from 38,188 properties.
The BBMP in March this year extended the last date to avail of a five per cent rebate on payment of property taxes from May 1 to July 31.
