The Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ), vide press release has reported a notable increase in audit filings for the assessment year (AY) 2024-25. More than 34.84 lakh audit reports were submitted on the e-filing portal by the due date. This total includes about 34.09 lakh Tax Audit Reports ( TARs ), showing an increase of around 4.8% compared to the TAR filings for AY 2023-24.
To help taxpayers with the filing process, the income tax department launched several outreach initiatives aimed at educating them. These included sending targeted emails and SMS messages, conducting informative webinars, running social media campaigns, and sharing detailed messages on the Income Tax portal.

The department also posted various user awareness videos to guide taxpayers on how to correctly file TARs and other audit forms. These were designed to assist taxpayers and tax professionals in meeting deadlines.
Additionally, the e-filing Helpdesk team played an important role in supporting taxpayers during this filing period. From September to October 2024, they handled around 1.23 lakh queries, actively assisting taxpayers throughout the process.

Support was available through several channels, including phone calls, live chats, WebEx sessions, and co-browsing opportunities. The Helpdesk team also responded to queries on the department’s X handle (formerly Twitter), using Online Response Management (ORM) to help taxpayers in near real-time, mentioned the Ministry in its press release.
Due to the combined efforts, the CBDT claims that forms such as 10B, 10BB, 3CA-CD, 3CB-CD, and others like 29B, 29C, and 10CCB filled smoothly. Overall, the department’s initiatives have made a positive impact on timely compliance among taxpayers.
