CBIC allows Direct Port Delivery for Clearance of Containers containing the Flood Relief Materials arrived at Cochin [Read Letter]

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), in a recent communication to the Commissioner of Customs, Cochin, has informed that as a special case, it has been permitted to extend the facility of Direct Port Delivery for clearance of the Containers containing the Flood Relief Materials arrived at ICTT, Vallarpadam.

Last week, the Kerala high court had laid down certain guidelines for importing flood relief materials to Kerala. The Court also indicated that it would be prudent for the State/Central Governments to simultaneously give adequate publicity to the approvals granted to the various relief agencies for the purposes of the customs notification, as also to the details of the relief material that are found necessary in various districts in the State.

Following the decision, the Board, in the communication dated 5th September said that “It is informed that the facility for DPO is permitted for all goods covered under Notification No. 59/2018- Customs dated21.08.2018 subject to the conditions that the representatives of the State Government take proper receipt of the goods as per the guidelines by the Government of Kerala, the orders dated 31.08.2018,passed by the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala in Writ Petition (Civil) No.28497 & 28666 of 2018 and in compliance with the procedural requirements as applicable.”
