Addressing the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) national awards for excellence in corporate governance in the national capital, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasised the pivotal role of company secretaries in shaping the country’s corporate governance framework. According to him, the expertise of Company Secretaries required for formulation of Corporate Laws.
During the event, Birla acknowledged the intricate nature of corporate governance processes and the continuous amendments, urging industry experts to contribute to capacity building, reported BS.
Highlighting the complexities involved, Birla underscored the importance of company secretaries in upholding transparency within the system, benefiting both consumers and shareholders. He asserted that the excellence of corporate governance is intrinsically linked to the efforts of company secretaries.
ICSI President Manish Gupta emphasised the evolving nature of governance, extending beyond boardrooms to encompass corporate stewardship and citizenship. These aspects, he noted, have become central to businesses globally. During the event, LS Speaker Mr. Birla unveiled seven publications, contributing to the knowledge base in the field.
Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI)
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is the sole officially recognized professional organisation in the country entrusted with the development and regulation of the Company Secretaries profession. Established under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, an act of Parliament, ICSI operates under the authority of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. With its headquarters located in New Delhi and four regional offices in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai, ICSI boasts 72 chapters nationwide.
