The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has announced an important update for its upcoming 2024 elections, allowing members to exercise the option of ‘Anywhere Voting’ through the change of polling booth facility.
Members whose names are registered as of April 1, 2024, and are eligible to vote in the ICAI Election 2024, can apply for this option starting from October 25, 2024, through the ICAI Portal.

For members seeking to vote at a different polling booth within their own regional constituency, they can submit their application online from October 25, 2024, until November 21, 2024. This facility allows members to select any polling booth of their choice within their regional constituency, ensuring greater flexibility for those who may not be able to access their originally designated booth.
Members who need to cast their vote outside their designated regional constituency can also apply for a change of polling booth between October 25, 2024, and November 14, 2024. However, this option is restricted to specific conditions: members must either have a change in their professional address or expect to be away from their professional address on the polling day. The move aims to ensure that members who are professionally or personally displaced during election day still have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

It is important to note that once a member has opted to change their polling booth, the decision is irreversible. Therefore, ICAI has advised all members to carefully evaluate their options before submitting their request.
Despite changing polling booths, members will only be able to vote for candidates contesting from their own regional constituency, regardless of whether they vote within or outside the constituency. This rule ensures that the election maintains regional integrity while offering voting flexibility.
