In the Kerala Assembly, the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has demanded stricter labour law enforcement following the death of a young Kerala based CA ( Chartered Accountant ) of the giant accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.
The CM urged to implement the labour laws in all sectors. According to the minister, the employees who are working are denied the rights to speak against when they have work pressure or are dismissed.

CA Anna, a brilliant girl, had passed her CA exams in November 2023 and began her career at EY Pune in March 2024. However, due to work pressure and a girl who wanted to gain experience so badly and who didn’t know how to say ‘No’ ended her life in July.
Anna’s mother Anita wrote a letter to the Chairman of EY. She remembers the heartbreaking events that led to her daughter’s death, highlighting how physically exhausted Anna was due to her job.

She struggled with a heavy workload that was made worse by extra tasks and constant messages from her managers. When Anna tried to express her concerns, she was met with indifference. One manager reportedly told her, “You can work at night; that’s what we all do,” ignoring her need for rest.
The Kerala CM emphasised the importance of properly enforcing labour laws across all sectors. He pointed out that companies in the IT industry should also adhere to these regulations to protect their employees. He also quoted that the current laws does not specify the rules with regards to the work from home aspect which came after post – covid 19.
