The Union Govt on Wednesday has banned the export of Alcohol-based hand sanitizers. A notification issued by Directorate General Foreign Trade, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said, the Centre has amended the notification of 24th March related to the export policy of sanitizers with immediate effect.
“Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are prohibited for export,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) that comes under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a notification.
Sanitizers are an essential component in the fight against the deadly infection and are used as a disinfectant to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. The move by the government is meant to boost the availability of hand sanitizers in the domestic market amid the outbreak of the infectious Covid-19 disease.
There was a shortage of hand sanitizers and face masks in the market amid the coronavirus outbreak as people resorted to panic buying.
Amending the March 24 notification wherein exports of all kinds of sanitizers were prohibited, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said, “only alcohol-based hand sanitizers are prohibited for exports.”
Previously, on March 19, the central government had imposed a similar ban on the export of ventilators, disposable masks, coveralls, and other essentials necessary in treating coronavirus cases.
