The Central Government today notified the procedure for intimating Aadhaar number with the Income Tax Department in compliance with the provisions of section 139AA of the Income Tax Act.
As per the notification, existing PAN holders can link their Aadhaar with their Permanent Account Number (PAN) to the specified authorities by using different modes such as SMS, on-line, or through designated PAN service centre.
The Notification also provides for the manner through which Aadhaar has to be informed while adopting the above methods.
For persons who opt for SMS, on-line modes, no fee will be collected. However, SMS charges as levied by the Mobile service provider would be applicable in such cases. If the user avails the service of PAN service centre, approved prescribed fee would be collected by the service centre from the PAN holder. No additional fee would be levied for Aadhaar seeding while making new PAN application or change request.
For quoting Aadhaar in new PAN application process and for quoting Aadhaar in form titled “Request for New PAN Card or And Changes or Correction in PAN Data”, the Govt prescribes separate procedures.
“Aadhaar shall be linked to PAN after due authentication of aadhaar from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) through available authentication modes, i.e demographic, bio-metric, OTP, e-KYC, or Multi-factor or as specified by the UIDAI. Aadhaar data shall be matched with PAN/PAN application data before authentication. PAN application or request for linking of aadhaar with PAN may be rejected if mismatches in aadhaar and PAN data are observed,” it said.
