The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has issued a Statement with Continuing Professional Education ( CPE ) Credit Guidelines for Chartered Accountants ( CA ) for 2024.
The Continuing Professional Education Committee ( CPEC ), an integral non-standing committee operating under the guidance of the ICAI Council, plays a pivotal role in setting strategic directions and overseeing CPE activities conducted by Programme Organising Units (POUs) and individual members. Operating with a constructive approach, CPEC empowers members through comprehensive training programs outlined in an extensive CPE calendar.
Recognizing the paramount importance of maintaining high-quality standards in professional services and competence, ICAI identified Continuing Professional Education ( CPE ) as a central focus back in 2003. The Statement on Continuing Professional Education, 2003, was issued to establish norms for members undertaking CPE activities, with subsequent amendments leading up to its current applicability until the enforcement of the CPE Statement, 2023.
In response to the evolving business landscape and global practices, the ICAI Council, through the CPE Committee, regularly releases or revises CPE Advisories/Guidelines in accordance with Section 15 of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the Chartered Accountants (Amendment) Act, 2022, the ICAI Council, during its 426th meeting, decided to introduce the “Statement on Continuing Professional Education, 2023.”
This statement outlines the mechanisms for members to undergo CPE activities and incorporates provisions for non-compliance with CPE hours’ requirements, applicable from the Calendar Year 2024. Non-compliance consequences take effect from January 1, 2025, for issues arising in the Calendar Year 2024.
The detailed Statement on Continuing Professional Education, 2023, is available on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) portal at: https://resource.cdn.icai.org/78720cpe63012.pdf.
Members are urged to review the statement and ensure compliance with the Continuing Professional Education Statement, 2023. For clarifications or queries, members can contact the CPE Committee via email at cpeadmin@icai.in.
