The Women Members Excellence Committee ( WMEC ) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) is set to conduct a “CA Women Leadership Conclave” on 29th June, amidst reports of Women Students being removed at the request of the chief guest of an International ICAI event for CA Students.
During the conference for CA students, ICAI President Mr. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal highlighted the increasing number of women Chartered Accountants in India. Ironically, the same women were removed from the front rows of the session at the demand of chief guest Swami Gyanvatsalya from BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir.
The Swami threatened to leave if his condition was not met, leading even female event organisers working backstage to vacate the area and sit at the back of the hall. Despite this, Swamiji spoke about making India ‘Vikasit’ and a ‘Vishwaguru’ by 2047, revealing a stark contrast between his words and actions.

Swami Gyanvatsalya reportedly threatened to leave if his condition of having no women in the front rows was not met. This led to the removal of female attendees from the front rows.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation. An anonymous attendee commented on Reddit, “I was present here and every single woman in this entire auditorium was silent. How can the managing committee commit such a blunder by inviting this pathetic excuse of a human to an international conference? I hope everyone responsible for this is fired.”
There has been no official response from the Institute of CAs so far on this pressing issue.
The conclave is set to be held on 29th June 2024 (Saturday) from 9 AM to 6 PM with the topics of discussion being Professional Opportunities, Global Networking, Leadership, Technology, Passion, Work life Balance and the Women Portal Relaunch for Flexi & Part-time Work.
