Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, gave the legislative assembly the State Budget on 9th March 2023, Thursday. The Shinde-led government’s first budget has five priorities: farmers, women, youth, employment, and the environment.
The Key highlights are:
- Introduces Amnesty Scheme – ‘Maharashtra Settlement of Arrears of Tax, Interest, Penalty or Late Fee Act, 2023’
- Annual cash benefits of ₹6000 Crores for farmers which modelled after the PM KISAN Yojana
- 50% off state transportation for women in use throughout the state.
- Girl from Below Poverty Line (BPL) will receive ₹75,000 when she attains 18 years of age.
- Led-Ledki Scheme for education – grants allowed to yellow and orange ration card holders.
- Increases mediclaim cover given to BPL families under Mahatma Phule Jivandayee Yojna from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh. Free treatment of Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana has also increased from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh.
- Conducts e-panchnama with the help of drones and satellites to assess the damage due to natural calamities like unseasonal rains.
- Use 1,000-acre plot in Nagpur to develop a logistics hub.
- 1% discount on stamp duty for women
- Profession Tax Act: Proposes to amend the definition of “Person with Disability” provide exemption to more.
- Profession Tax exemption to woman of salary ₹25,000
- Reduction in VAT rate on ATF from 25% to 18% Mumbai, Pune Raigad Districts
