Use of Mobile Phone in CA Exams: ICAI Debars Candidates Allegedly Involved in CA Exam Paper Leak Issue for 5 Years

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has taken strict action with regards to the exam paper leak issue. The institute has imposed a 5 year ban on CA candidates who used mobile phones inside the examination hall.

The ICAI announcement is as follows:

“As per the policy of Examination Department of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, among others, possession of Mobile Phone or any other electronic device / gadgets are strictly prohibited inside the examination centre during Chartered Accountants Examinations.

During May 2024 Chartered Accountants Examinations, it was observed that certain examinees were found in the physical possession of the Mobile Phone and some telegram group/WhatsApp group/other channels of communication were found in their mobile phones. All the mobile phones were confiscated, and reports were taken from the Examination Centre and other Functionaries.

The Examination Committee of the Institute, has taken a serious view of above and decided to debar all such candidates, who were involved in tarnishing the image of the Institute by taking mobile phones inside the examination hall, for the next 5 years from appearing in the Chartered Accountants Examinations.

In view of the above, students are advised to go through the Instructions to Examinees provided along with the admit card, carefully and familiarize themselves with the same to ensure the compliance in letter and spirit.”

Allegations of leaked Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Exam – Financial Reporting [FR] of the May 2024 Final Exams have ignited widespread discussions on Social Media, notably X, formerly Twitter.

The controversy stems from a message in a telegram account named AIR1CA Guidance & Notes, claiming that the May 24th FR exam paper was posted as an MCQ in PDF format. Sources close to the matter disclosed that the MCQs were shared in the Telegram group just hours before the scheduled end of the exam, sparking outrage among students and the accounting community, with calls for a thorough investigation.

It is appreciable that the institute has taken strict action against those who were involved in this. Candidates must adhere to the examination rules set by the institute to uphold the integrity of the examination process.
