West Bengal Budget 2020 proposes to waive Agricultural Income Tax to Tea Gardens for Next Two Financial Years

Amit Mitra the Finance Minister of West Bengal presented the Budget 2020 and made the significant announcement of the waiver of the Agricultural Income Tax of the tea gardens for the 2 financial years i.e. 2020-21 and 2021-22. This announcement brought relief to the farmers working in tea gardens.

The Finance Minister introduced a new scheme wherein the individuals who are aged above 60 years, belonged to Scheduled Caste (SC) they are not availing the pension under any other scheme will be given the sum of Rs.1000/- per month. This scheme was called ‘Bandhu Prakalpa’

Furthermore, the Finance Minister also introduced a new scheme wherein the individuals who are aged above 60 years, belonged to Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) they are not availing the pension under any other scheme will be given the sum of Rs.1000/- per month. This scheme was called ‘Jai Johar’ and ‘Bandhu Prakalpa’ respectively.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister announced free electricity for all those consumers whose consumptions in less than 75 units in four months i.e. quarterly.

The state government also announced the allocation of Rs. 200 crore for the purpose of setting up of 100 new Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) parks with the sole objective to increase the employment opportunities for the people of West Bengal and allocation of Rs. 500 crores are for the housing scheme for all the persons working in the tea gardens who are also known as ‘Chai Sundari’. This scheme will benefit approximately 3 lakh workers working in almost 370 tea gardens in the state of West Bengal.

Therefore, it is pertinent to mention that before the presentation of the Budget 2020-21 for the state of West Bengal there was the meeting of the state cabinet under the chairmanship of Mamta Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
