The Hyderabad police have arrested 29-year-old YouTuber, on allegations of defrauding more than 10 chartered accountants to the tune of Rs 2.48 crore. The Youtuber stands accused of luring victims with promises of lucrative Returns on investment, only to vanish after collecting funds.
According to CCS inspector D. Bikshapathi, the accused, operated a YouTube channel under his own name, leveraging it to disseminate lectures on accounting. This platform served as a means to establish credibility and win the trust of chartered accountants.
Bikshapathi stated, “The accused swindled more than 10 chartered accountants in Hyderabad, resulting in a total loss of Rs 2.48 crores. The victims have filed complaints with the Hyderabad CCS”.
One victim, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the arrested youtuber pretended to be his best friend, reported Deccan Chronicle.
At first, the person who did wrong kept their promise to pay back the money. However, things took a bad turn. The accused asked the victim for Rs. 10 lakh on February 11, saying he needed it to buy gold and promised to pay it back quickly. Believing the accused, the victim, a victim-CA sent the money.
Nevertheless, when the victim tried to contact the person on February 18, his phone was turned off. Then, the CA then decided to report the matter to the authorities.
Subsequent investigations unveiled a cascade of complaints against the YouTuber at the police station, with victims expressing deep concerns over the fate of their investments. “We are worried about the money we gave him, and we are hoping for justice,” the victim emphasised.
